It seems the recipe for a perfect show involves themes of politics, family drama, and a whole lot of sass – all wrapped in one. According to actress Terri J. Vaughn,
that is exactly what Netflix’s newest comedy, She the People, is all about.
In an exclusive interview with Power 94, Vaughn and her legendary co-star Jo Marie Payton dish on everything from behind-the-scenes laughs to the powerful moments that made them cry when filming.
Premiering May 22nd on Netflix, She the People follows Antoinette (Vaughn’s character)— a newly elected Black lieutenant governor, mother of two teenagers, and daughter of a no-filter mama who is still in the hood. Vaughn calls it a “fun rollercoaster” packed with real issues, relatable characters, and emotional wins.
The actresses recall a very touching scene where the family is celebrating Antoinette’s election victory and found themselves tearing up for real. Payton, always a grounding force, also touched on the power of staying protective and present as a mother, even in the face of political chaos.
It’s heartfelt, hilarious, and it’s exactly the kind of show we need right now. So, go ahead and add She The People to your watchlist, because after hearing from these two powerhouse women, we’re all in!
