Chattanooga, get your gardening gloves ready! In a lively chat with Becca Love of SEED Chattanooga, we learn how this powerhouse organization is transforming underserved neighborhoods through Sustainable Education Edible Development.
SEED teaches communities everything from planting and harvesting to cooking, preserving, and composting—basically turning food deserts into places where fresh produce and new skills can grow. As we prepare to spread joy and cheer this upcoming holiday season, they’re bringing that magic to Hardy Elementary, where six beautifully built raised beds are waiting for some love, care, and a whole lot of community spirit.
On November 22, everyone—kids, adults, students seeking service hours, or anyone who wants to get involved in something meaningful—is invited to join SEED for a Community Garden Cleanup Day from 9:00 to 11:30 AM.
Volunteers will pull weeds, turn the soil, and plant winter-friendly crops, such as broccoli, cauliflower, and herbs, all of which are donated by The Barn Nursery.
It’s hands-on learning at its best: kids get to put their hands in the dirt, discover where food really comes from, and maybe even inspire healthier eating habits. Most of all, it’s a chance to come together, have fun, and sow seeds that will bloom in the spring.
Want to participate? Just show up—or check out SEED Chattanooga’s website for all the details.
