Hixson Middle School is bringing the spotlight back to the stage with its first theatre production in nearly a decade. Theatre Director Jayna Schwartz reveals the departments up coming productions is both a comedy and mystery titled ‘Hollywood Hillbillies‘.
She says the storyline follows Gram Hawley and her wild Hollywood family as they navigate years of separation—and a missing chunk of money that leaves everyone asking, “whodunit?”
According to Schwartz, students have been working all year to bring this production to life, diving headfirst into the world of theatre both on stage and behind the scenes.
What started as a classroom exploration quickly turned into something much bigger.
“It opened their horizons to what’s to come for my eighth graders going into ninth grade. It showed them that it’s weeks of preparation… but it’s weeks of fun and that’s really what it is” Schwartz says.
From a little initial intimidation to full-on excitement, these students have embraced the arts in a way that’s both inspiring and powerful. Now, it’s time for the community to step in and support.
Opening night kicks off May 1st at 7 PM at Hixson Middle with a petting zoo beforehand. General Tickets are priced at $7 and $5 for students and seniors.
With multiple showtimes throughout the weekend, there’s no excuse to miss it.
As Schwartz puts it, this is only the beginning—and with this kind of passion, Hixson Middle’s theatre program is just getting started.
