Dallos Vinyl Love owner Marlo White says his lifelong passion for music began with soul records and later grew through years of DJing in the St. Louis area.
When reflecting on his first year in business, White says, “This year has been everything I expected it to be. Everything’s happening a lot quicker than I anticipated.”
He also shares what he’s learned about running a small business: “Every day is not going to be a good day… Saturday is my day to make up ground for what didn’t happen Sunday through Friday.”
The store’s best-selling records remain classics, with Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Prince’s Purple Rain, and Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life among the top sellers, while White calls Goodie Mob’s Soul Food his personal favorite album of all time.
The shop will mark its anniversary with Drop the Needle Charity Edition on Saturday, June 13th, starting at 10 a.m. at 1463 Market Street in Chattanooga.
White says the event will feature local “Vibe Masters” selecting music throughout the day, plus sales, giveaways, a food truck, coffee, smash burgers, and other music-related merchandise, with proceeds supporting charitable efforts.
“Expect to be surprised,” White says, adding that many first-time visitors are shocked by the store’s large and varied vinyl selection spanning R&B, jazz, hip-hop, rock, indie, metal, and more.
