The Tennessee Aquarium is making waves by expanding their accessibility with a new Initiative. The organization reveals they have joined the nationwide program Museums for All. This allows families and individuals receiving government assistance to purchase admission tickets at a reduced price.
The initiative from the Institute of Museums and Library Services aims to make the aquarium’s educational experience accessible to all members of the community, regardless of their financial situation.
The program allows individuals and families receiving SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits to purchase discounted admission tickets to the aquarium. For just $5 a per person, up to four people can enjoy the aquarium’s two main buildings – the River Journey and Ocean Journey – as well as the IMAX theater.
The discounted tickets must be purchased in person. When inside the aquariums ticket office, visitors will need to present their EBT card and a photo ID. They can then pay for their tickets using another form of payment, such as cash or a debit/credit card.
The Aquarium operates on a timed entry system, so be sure to plan ahead especially during weekends and holidays, when tickets may sell out quicker than usual.
This move comes after 33 years of connecting millions of visitors to the wonders of the natural world, expanding the Aquarium’s commitment to inclusivity. By reducing financial barriers, the Tennessee Aquarium looks to spark a deeper connection with its visitors.
In addition to the Museums for All program, the Tennessee Aquarium is also offering a special event. On Friday January 17th, the aquarium will debut a 45-minute 3D documentary about the Blue Angels. This providing an inside look into the lives of the members in the renowned U.S. Navy flight demonstration team. Then On January 23rd at 6pm, a former Blue Angels pilot and three-time commanding officer will make an appearance for a special screening of the documentary followed by a Q&A session.
