In a world filled with constant distractions, app creator N’nako Kande is encouraging people to intentionally slow down through Silent Hour.
It is a mindfulness app inspired by a personal moment of stillness on a hike.
What began as guided silent walks, evolved into a book and eventually a mobile app designed to help users create moments of peace whether they’re in nature, at home, or in the middle of a busy city.
“We are so overstimulated,” Kande says. “There’s noise everywhere… you’re the one who has to learn to slow down enough to hear the silence.”
The app guides users through customizable mindfulness exercises, including breathing techniques, reflection, meditation, and journaling, while allowing them to tailor the experience to their individual needs.
Kande believes making time for quiet isn’t a luxury but a necessity, noting, “If you don’t have time to slow down, something in life will make you slow down.” Throughout the app, users are encouraged to build intentional habits that support their mental health and nervous system while creating what Kande describes as a personal safe space.
“I want you to get a hold of this, take your time, hold your phone, sit down, breathe… you’ll feel like there’s somebody out there who’s rooting for you,” Kande says.
Available on both Apple and Android devices, Silent Hour serves as an accessible reminder that even a few moments of intentional stillness can help people return to themselves “again and again.”
