As students prepare to return to the classroom, Chattanooga Preparatory School is inviting the community to celebrate the beginning of a new school year with the ‘ Chattanooga 300’ walk.
The event is scheduled for August 5th and begins at 6:30 a.m..
It is designed to surround students with encouragement as they make their way into school. This backing the belief that every child deserves to know they have people cheering them on.
The schools CEO Troy Kemp describes the tradition as much more than a ceremonial walk.
“Chattanooga Prep is a community school. It’s a public school. It’s of the people, it’s by the people, it’s for the people,” Kemp says.
Inspired by the excitement of athletes entering a stadium, community members will line the sidewalk from the gym to the school building, applauding students as they begin the academic year.
“We’re going to show up for y’all.” Kemp says.
The slogan for ‘Chattanooga 300’, “They will never walk alone,” Kemp says, mirrors one of Chatt Prep’s core beliefs that students should never feel like they’re facing life’s challenges alone.
Kemp hopes the crowd grows beyond the event’s original goal of 300 supporters.
“We’re trying to get 600. We’re trying to get 1,000,” Kemp says. “Don’t say, ‘Well, I can’t be there at 6:30.’ If you’re there at 6:31, come on. If you’re there at 7:29, come on. Show up anyway.”
While registration is not required, participants are simply encouraged to show up, cheer loudly, and help launch the school year with encouragement and support.
