Chattanooga native Billy Sorrells is coming home and he’s bringing plenty of laughs with him.
On Thursday, October 8th, at 7 p.m., Sorrells will take the stage at the Comedy Catch for one night only as part of the live taping of his comedy special. This gives hometown fans and loved ones a chance to see him perform in the city where it all began.
“I’m excited, man, to be able to come home to Chattanooga, to be able to do this show, especially this live taping,” Sorrells says.
For the comedian, actor, writer and producer, this performance is about much more than comedy, it’s his first time recording a special in Chattanooga after leaving the city at age 10.
“Chattanooga means so much to me because it is where I got my start and where I really became who I am,” Sorrell says.
The special will shine a light on the parts of his Chattanooga upbringing that audiences elsewhere may not know, including lessons he learned growing up as a third-generation coach’s son.
The night also carries special family significance, as Sorrells plans to celebrate the release of his late father’s book, Shot Caller: The Pedagogy of Urban Rigor, which explores education, family legacy and the Sorrells family’s impact on Chattanooga.
“I’m honoring, you know, the guys that came before me and the family that came before me on this special day,” Sorrells explains. “I want to see everybody out there, man, and have a good time,”.
VIP tickets are available through the Comedy Catch, while fans looking to join the live studio audience can call 323-385-9734 or text TIX with their name and email.
A limited number of copies of his father’s book are also expected to be available, making October 8th a chance to laugh, celebrate family and experience a piece of Chattanooga history with one of its own.
As Sorrells puts it, “The love that I want to be able to share is so super intentional with you guys. And I’m excited.”
