Chattanooga is getting a little extra star power this week as NFL legend Terrell Owens returns to the city that helped shape his career, bringing along a new documentary, Terrell and T.O., and plenty of love for his Alma Mater.
Premiering November 5th on Amazon Prime Video, the documentary offers a more personal look at the man behind the football legend, exploring the difference between Terrell Owens and the larger-than-life personality fans came to know as T.O.
“When I stepped on the football field, I became T.O.,” Owens explains, comparing the transformation to superheroes with their own alter egos.
After spending the last year and a half bringing the project together, Owens says viewers will get a glimpse of his childhood, family, former teammates, coaches, and the experiences that helped shape him beyond the game.
This homecoming though, is about more than a documentary premiere. Now returning to Chattanooga for his eighth homecoming, Owens says his first visit back brought him to tears as he realized just how much his time at University of Tennessee at Chattannooga, meant to the university and community.
These days, he’s hoping to return some of that love by helping build excitement and school pride, especially when it comes to supporting UTC athletics.
“I want to see that stadium, Finley Stadium, packed on both sides,” he says, encouraging students, alumni, and the Chattanooga community to show up for their Mocs.
He’s also putting his money where his mouth is, promoting 1,000 free tickets for Saturday’s homecoming game.
His visit also includes a special screening of the documentary, family and former teammates in town, and a new UTC apparel collaboration inspired by Chattanooga history, including the bricks from the former Chamberlain Field stadium that now make up the iconic arch on campus.
For Owens, it’s all about bringing things full circle.
From making memories on the football field to sharing his story on screen, his return is a reminder that no matter how far life takes you, there’s something special about coming home.
